Raincoats Re-Issues Debut, Plots U.S. Tour
September 08, 2009 - Global | Indies | Touring

By Andre Paine, London

Thirty years after its original release, U.K. alternative act the Raincoats' self-titled debut is being reissued following a 10-year period when it was commercially unavailable.

The all-female post-punk group was a favorite of the late Kurt Cobain, whose 1993 liner notes will be included in this release.

Originally issued in 1979 via Rough Trade Records, this edition of "The Raincoats" will be released through the band's own label, We ThRee, on heavyweight vinyl including download coupon on Oct. 12, followed by a special edition digipack enhanced CD on Nov. 9.

Kill Rock Stars will release the album on vinyl simultaneously in the U.S. A relaunched Web site will promote the reissue.

The Raincoats will play live dates in the U.S. in October, followed by shows in Europe in November and Japan in February 2010. It has confirmed four U.S. dates: the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn (Oct. 16) and Portland Holocene (Oct. 13), as well as the Part Time Punks Festival in San Francisco and Los Angeles (Oct. 9 and 11).
