Grammy and Brit Award-nominated newcomer Corinne Bailey Rae, Swedish folk artist José Gonzalez and German pop-rockers Tokio Hotel were among the artists honored today at the fourth annual European Border Breakers Awards.
The EBBAs presentation, held again during the Midem trade fair in Cannes, recognizes the European artists that have achieved the best continental export sales per country with a debut album in 2006.
Winners, in alphabetical order, were British singer Bailey Rae's self-titled Good Groove/EMI set; from Poland, Blog 27's "LOL" (Magic Rec/Kontor); from Ireland, Celtic Woman's eponymous Angel set; from Sweden, Gonzalez' "Veneer" (Imperial/Bonnier); from Italy, Vittorio Grigolo's "In the Hands of Love" (Polydor/Universal); from Spain, Beatriz Luengo's set-titled AZ/Universal album; from France, Ilona Mitrecey' "Un Monde Parfait" (Scorpio/Universal); from Greece, Helena Paparizou's "My Number One" (Columbia/Sony BMG); from Belgium, Gabriel Rios' "Ghostboy" (Megadisc Recordings) and Tokio Hotel's "Schrei" (Island/Universal).
The EBBAs are organized by the European Commission in cooperation with EMO, GESAC, ICMP/CIEM, IFPI, IMPALA, MTV Networks Europe and Billboard Information Group.
