Nielsen Launches The Entertainment Council
March 12, 2008

The Nielsen Company has established The Entertainment Council, an invitation-only member organization designed to enhance marketing expertise in the entertainment industry.

The council's aim to be an industry resource and forum to facilitate better decision making for the entertainment executive, particularly the marketer.

It will have approximately 50 members, who will have access to a wealth of marketing resources, including breakfast forums, trend summits and exclusive databases, including a speakers' bureau identifying qualified panelists and keynote speakers.

Media industry veteran Gerry Byrne will spearhead the project. Byrne is the new senior VP of the Entertainment Group at Nielsen Business Media, a part of Billboard parent The Nielsen Company.

"The creation, financing, production, marketing and distribution of entertainment content, in all its forms, across all platforms, on a global basis is what defines the business of entertainment," comments Byrne.

"While production quality and entertainment value are certainly the underlying success drivers, it is effective marketing that ignites box office sales, television ratings, downloads, page views, listeners, live event attendance, and retail sales."

He added, "Nielsen's The Entertainment Council is the only organization of its kind that is supported by a global business media, research and data company. The resources of Nielsen allow us to engage the leading business executives and top marketers in entertainment with unique research and best practices reports, events and forums, newsletters and exclusive data that explore this rapidly evolving digital and global entertainment market."

Each year, a research agenda will be formally established by The Entertainment Council executive board that includes best practices bench-marking reports and industry sector reports.
