GrandVista, HiFive/Fontana Sign Distribution Deal
March 11, 2009

By Ed Christman, N.Y.

The GrandVista Music label, founded in Nashville in 2005 by veteran producer Paul Carrol Binkley and entrepreneur David Mastran, has signed a distribution deal with HiFive/Fontana.

The label is preparing to launch a series of new releases that represent an eclectic array of big band, jazz, orchestral and new pop music, including "Swinging On The Moon," from Perry Danos, in May 2009. The album features Danos renderings of 12 classic standards by such composers as Mel Torme, Stevie Wonder, Harold Arlen and Sam Cooke.

HiFive is a music sales and marketing organization, founded by former Verve executives Michael Kauffman and Tony Pellegrino, along with Kevin Cassidy, formerly of Tower Records. HiFive has a partnership with Fontana Distribution, the indie distributor owned by the Universal Music Group. As part of its services, HiFive delivers an additional layer of services such as sales and account management services.

In another example of outsourcing label services, HiFive was brought into the GrandVista picture by New York-based Passionate Marketing, which provides the label with strategic consulting and marketing services.

Singer/songwriter Shelean Newman's debut album, "Anything Goes," is slated for release this June. Shelean also covers standards from the Great American Songbook, but steps far to the left of their original interpretations.
