German Tech Firm Trivid Takes Popkomm Innovation Award
September 19, 2007 - Global

By Mark Sutherland, London

German technology company Trivid has won Popkomm 2007's Innovation in Music and Entertainment Award (IMEA) on day one of the confab in Berlin.

The firm triumphed with its Clipgenerator service, which allows online users to generate private music videos featuring a combination of their own media (photographs, video footage) and licensed music videos.

Judges singled out Clipgenerator for its potential to secure a consumer following and its user-friendliness. They win prize money of €5,000 ($7,000) and a free stand at Popkomm 2008.

Judges also singled out Australian firm GD Worldwide Pty. Ltd. and its audience relationship management program Usync for special praise during the awards, which honor the best new business ideas. Billboard is a media partner of the awards, which were celebrated with a VIP dinner at Berlin restaurant Solar.

The other finalists were: music recommendation application BMAT (Spain); digital distribution service Kazzong (Germany); music recommendation Web site MOG.com (United States); mobile entertainment providers mSpot Remix (United States); community platform MusicMakesFriends (Luxembourg) and online licensing marketplace YouLicense (Israel).
