Montage Music Group Reorganizes
February 19, 2009 | Country

By Ken Tucker, Nashville

Nashville-based independent label Montage Music Group is being reorganized. Montage, owned by Illinois-based holding company Hedgewood International, is home to Little Texas, Andy Griggs and the Road Hammers, among others.

Allen Butler, the former president and CEO of Sony Music Nashville, started Montage in 2006.

"Like every other business sector working through this challenging economy, [management] is examining the business model and identifying what changes need to be made to preserve the viable parts of the business," a spokeswoman wrote in an e-mail to Billboard.biz. "At this point, maintaining under the current structure is [likely] not a prudent business decision. Therefore, changes are being made, but definitive determinations have not."

The spokeswoman declined to comment on the status of the group's employees and artists.

One portion of the group that will not be affected is Montage Publishing. "It has been a successful venture and there are currently no plans to close that part of the business," the spokeswoman wrote.

Montage is the latest Nashville independent to struggle. Equity Music Group, founded by artist Clint Black and once home to platinum act Little Big Town, suspended operations in the fall.
