Jet Takes Off With Manager Kovac
May 09, 2008 - Global

By Christie Eliezer, Melbourne

Australian rock band Jet has parted ways with its Sydney-based management company Winterman and Goldstein after six years.

The band will now be handled by veteran U.S. manager Allen Kovac, whose clients include Buckcherry, Meatloaf, Hanson and Papa Roach. Kovac is CEO of 10th Street Entertainment, which has offices in Los Angeles, Los Angeles and London.

Jet formed in Melbourne in 2001, named after the Paul McCartney and Wings song from 1973's "Band On The Run" album. Their debut album "Get Born" (2003), released through Atlantic Records and EMI Music Australia, sold 3.5 million units, according to the band's Web site, reaching No. 1 on the Australian Recording Industry Association chart and No. 26 on The Billboard 200.

Its 2006 follow up "Shine On" peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard albums chart and sold 500,000 units worldwide.

Last month, the act was in Hit Factory Studio in Miami with Iggy Pop recording a version of the late Australian rocker Johnny O'Keefe's hit "The Wild One". The song was the first rock 'n' roll hit by a local act Down Under, and marks the 50th anniversary of Australian rock music this year.

Winterman and Goldstein was formed and run by Pete Lusty, Andy Cassell and Andy Kelly as the management arm of Ivy League Records. The management roster includes the Vines, Youth Group and the Sleepy Jackson.
