Report: Digital Music Fans Want Access To Lyrics
August 04, 2008 - Digital and Mobile

By Antony Bruno, Denver

Lyrics remain in high demand by digital music fans, but existing sources of them aren't passing muster.

A report by literacy advocacy group National Year of Reading finds that 90% of survey respondents say reading lyrics to music helped them gain a better appreciation of the songs. Yet half feel lyrics are less accessible than they were five years ago, primarily because digital music formats rarely include lyrics as part of the product.

Despite many online music lyrics sites - some authorized, some not - 62% of the survey participants say they find these sources unreliable and sometime incorrect. Another 77% say digital music download services feel offering authorized, accurate lyrics should be part of the download experience.
