British rapper Lady Sovereign has spent the first night of her current Australia visit in a cell for her part in a drunken assault on a bouncer.
The singer, whose real name is Louise Amanda Harman, was charged with assault on the weekend after spitting in the face of a doorman for the Beat, a popular gay nightclub in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.
Police reported that the 5ft 1ins rapper was hysterical as she was thrown out of the venue in the early hours of Saturday morning. She had been in the country just seven hours.
Harman faced the Brisbane Magistrates Court later on Saturday (Sept. 26) morning, where she pleaded guilty to assault and drunk and disorderly charges. She was fined $400 Australian ($345) and ordered to pay $200 Australian ($172) compensation to the bouncer.
Magistrate Brendan Butler warned that spitting had "serious health implications" but did not record a conviction.
Harman took to her Twitter account over the weekend to share her side of the story. "Brisbane police need to go catch some real criminals... what a waste," she wrote. "Spitting in someone's face is nasty, but how about a guy dressed up as a girl running at you in the toilets and punching you in the head?"
Just hours after the incident, Harman took the mic for her 4.40pm slot on the opening date of the Parklife national festival tour.
