Sony Ericsson To Pre-Load New Fonseca Album
May 12, 2008 - Latin | Digital and Mobile

By Leila Cobo, Miami

Colombian singer/songwriter Fonseca has partnered with cellphone manufacturer Sony Ericsson in a multi-media promotional and retail campaign surrounding the release of his upcoming album, "Gratitud," and his subsequent Colombian and Central American tour.

"Gratitud," which hits stores in the United States and Latin America May 27 on EMI Televisa, will be pre-loaded onto approximately 50,000 Sony Ericsson phones in Colombia via a deal with carrier Movistar. The phones will be available beginning May 13, two weeks in advance of the album's physical release. The mobile content will include one track, "Quiero Saber," that will not be included in the physical album.

Fonseca, who garnered international acclaim with his 2006 hit "Te Mando Flores" and the album "Corazón," will also be the face of Movistar in Colombia. There, he will be featured in a major marketing and advertising campaign that includes sponsorship and promotion of his 10-stop Colombian tour in October.

In addition, Sony Ericsson helped pay for the production of the video for "Enrédame," the first single from "Gratitud." The video was shot at the same time as a commercial spot for the cellphone manufacturer, which has product placement in the video. Sony Ericsson is also sponsoring release of "Gratitud" in Central America, with carrier partners to be announced. There, the mobile release of the album is slated for June 1 and the physical release for June 15.
