PayPlay.fm Goes DRM-Free
May 30, 2007 - Digital and Mobile

By Antony Bruno, Denver

Another digital music service is now offering DRM-free, higher-quality tracks at a higher price -- a model similar to one launched today by Apple.

PayPlay.fm, which features a library of some 1.3 million tracks, was previously offering WMA-encoded DRM files for 77 cents at 128 kbps. Following the Memorial Day weekend the company introduced tracks formatted in 192 kbps without DRM for 88 cents.

The PayPlay.fm service went live last summer, and in October promised to expand into DRM-free sales. It features primarily independent music.
