Colombian Artists Rise Against Violence
September 12, 2007 - Global | Latin | Touring

JUANES
By Leila Cobo, Miami

In a show of solidarity from the music community, more than 30 Colombian artists will perform three simultaneous concerts in three different cities in the country protesting violence in that country.

The roster of announced acts includes Juanes, Fonseca, Fanny Lu, Cabas, Aterciopelados, Julio Nava and Mauricio & Palo de Agua. Concerts will be staged in stadiums in Medellín and Cali and in the Simon Bolivar Park in Bogotá.

The concerts are sponsored by radio network RCN Radio and Medellín station La Mega, 92.9 FM, which will give away tickets to all shows. Tickets -- which are free -- can also be found in various Web sites and via local TV shows and print media.

In the past year, Colombian artists have joined in various displays of solidarity, including massive marches, denouncing kidnappings and violence by guerillas and paramilitary groups.
