June 05, 2008 - Rock and Pop | Branding

By Kamau High, N.Y.

Ashley Tisdale, one of the stars of Disney's "High School Musical," this week released five songs via Degree Girl, the teen targeted deodorant by Unilever.

Tisdale recorded four covers of '80s hits and one from 1990. "Too Many Walls" is the sole 1990 entrant from Cathy Dennis. The rest of the covers are made up of; Whitney Houston's 1987 "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)", Rick Astley's 1987 "Never Gonna Give You Up", Cyndi Lauper's 1984 "Time After Time" and Belinda Carlisle 's 1987 "Heaven is a Place on Earth."

In addition Tisdale, who is signed to Warner Bros. Records in and released her first solo CD "Headstrong" in 2007, will blog for DegreeGirl.com. In order to download the tracks users must enter a code obtained from specially marked packages of Degree Girl.

"I loved recording these songs and I'm excited to share them with my fans," Tisdale said in a statement.

It could not be determined at deadline the level, if any, of Warner Bros.'s
involvement in the deal.
