Sean Moriarty Resigns From Ticketmaster Entertainment
March 30, 2009 - Touring

By Mitchell Peters, L.A.

Nearly two months after Ticketmaster Entertainment and Live Nation announced plans to merge, the fate of Sean Moriarty, president and CEO of the Ticketmaster division, has been revealed. The company has announced that Moriarty resigned on March 24, and has also resigned from its board of directors.

“I'll always be grateful for my time spent at Ticketmaster with its truly outstanding people and I wish the company every success in the future,” Moriarty said in a statement. His next move was unclear at deadline.

During his time at Ticketmaster, Moriarty led Ticketmaster through its acquisitions of software company Paciolan, secondary ticketing company TicketsNow and Chinese promoter Emma Entertainment, along with strategic investments in such companies as iLike and Echo Music.

But when Ticketmaster acquired a controlling interest in Irving Azoff's Front Line Management last November, Moriarty’s role at the combined company was uncertain. At the time, a source at Live Nation told Billboard that Live Nation CEO Michael Rapino will run Live Nation Ticketing, a business which was under Moriarty's purview at Ticketmaster.

Azoff now serves as CEO of Ticketmaster Entertainment and CEO of Front Line.

“Sean’s contribution to Ticketmaster in various management roles over time, including his role as president and CEO, has helped make Ticketmaster the great organization that it is today," Ticketmaster Entertainment chairman Barry Diller said in a statement.

"While we will miss Sean’s leadership and vision, we are confident that the management team in place, led by Irving Azoff, will help Ticketmaster continue to grow and prosper.”

Moriarty became CEO of Ticketmaster in 2007, and two years prior to that served as president and COO.
