Live Earth Ticket Demand 'Overwhelming'

Tickets to the U.K. leg of this summer's Live Earth spectacular have been well over-subscribed, organizers said today.
Roughly 203,000 concert-goers had registered for tickets to the July 7 environment-awareness concert at London's new Wembley Stadium, for which 60,000 available tickets are available.
Tickets will be administered by way of a ballot, which ran from April 13 - 16. Each person who registered has the opportunity to purchase two tickets.
"This overwhelming demand for tickets has ensured that everyone gets a fair opportunity to participate in Live Earth, and minimize ticket misuse," organizers said.
The allocation of tickets, which cost £55 ($109), will be announced tomorrow.
Sixteen frontline artists are already confirmed to perform at Wembley, including Beastie Boys, Duran Duran, Foo Fighters, Madonna and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Further acts will be confirmed in due course.
"Live Earth is featuring the world's biggest artists across all seven continents to unite an enormous global audience to take action against global warming," comments Kevin Wall, executive producer of Live Earth and the Live 8 concerts in 2005, in a statement.
"We're not only putting together the world's biggest live shows, we've developed an unprecedented broadcast architecture to reach a truly global audience," he adds. Wall is CEO of Control Room, which has produced and digitally distributed more than 100 concerts.
The U.K. concerts will be broadcast nationwide on BBC television and radio. Feeds will be beamed worldwide on LiveEarth.MSN.com. To date, the simultaneous international event has secured TV and radio broadcast coverage in 120 nations.
The other locations for the 07-07-07 concerts are Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., China (Steps of the Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai), South Africa (Johannesburg Cradle of Human Kind), Australia (Sydney Aussie Stadium), Brazil (Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Beach) and Japan (Tokyo Dome).
