Veteran music manager and A&R consultant Steven Melrose has been appointed VP, A&R labels for North America, U.K. and Ireland. Nick Gatfield, EMI's president of A&R labels, recruited Melrose, who will be based in Los Angeles.
Melrose, who is from Edinburgh, has stepped down from his role at his company Leftwing LLC, a Hollywood-based music firm that covers management, publishing, artist development and the label Retone Records. He has managed acts including the Crystal Method and Sam Sparro, whose self-titled debut album on Island was released in April in the U.K. where it is certified gold.
Melrose also co-founded independent label City of Angels, where he signed electronic-rock act The Crystal Method and entered into a deal for the band with Geffen imprint Outpost Recordings. He first moved to the U.S. as a marketing consultant for Nike.
