System Of A Down's Odadjian To Launch Label, Social Site
January 30, 2008 | Digital and Mobile

By Antony Bruno, Denver

System of a Down's Shavo Odadjian on Thursday will unveil a combination record label, social network and online music service called urSESSION.com. Hosts of the syndicated radio program "Wake Up Show" Sway and King Tech are also involved in the venture.

As a Web site, urSESSION.com will offer an online audition feature where acts of all genres can submit music, a social networking component where members can view and vote for their favorite submissions, and a community feature where artists can post classifieds for other artists to join their band or project.

Odadjian, who serves as urSESSIONS.com's president, says he will sign artists to his newly formed urSESSIONS Records label based on which artists on the social network receive the most votes from members.

"I don't have an A&R guy wearing a suit somewhere trying to do what's been done again," he said is a statement. "The kids are the ones who want to take chances."

Artists can also opt to sign deals with other labels who may discover them via the site as well.

Additionally, Sway and King Tech will air an online version of their "Wake Up Show" via the service, featuring exclusive videos and audio, and artists submitting content to the site will be invited to perform on the program.
