Prosecutors Won't Pursue Charges Against Warren G

June 10, 2008

By Associated Press

Prosecutors said Monday they won't pursue charges against rapper Warren G, who was arrested a day earlier for being in a car with marijuana.

A spokeswoman for Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley said there was insufficient evidence to prove the rapper, whose real name is Warren Griffin III, knew about the drugs.

Griffin was traveling with another man, Ryan Butler, in a car registered to a third party. That person was not in the vehicle when it was pulled over by Los Angeles police officers early Sunday morning in Hollywood, spokeswoman Shiara Davila said.

Authorities said the men ran a red light and that the marijuana was found in the trunk. Griffin and Butler were released later Sunday after posting $20,000 bail. Police had been seeking felony charges against the pair.

Warren G was nominated for a Grammy in 1995. The 35-year-old rapper is probably best known for his 1994 single, "Regulate."
