AARP, Other Charities Score At CMT Awards

April 16, 2008

By By Ken Tucker, Nashville

While Kellie Pickler took home the most trophies at the 2008 CMT Awards on April 14, it was her designated charity, the AARP Foundation Grandparenting Program, that took home the most money. The charity garnered $15,000 thanks to Pickler's three wins and CMT One Country, the cable channel's pro-social initiative that donated $5,000 to each winners' charity of choice.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift helped secure a $10,000 donation for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital with her wins for video of the year and female video.

In all, CMT One Country will award $70,000 on behalf of CMT Award winners. MusiCares, the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network, the American Liver Foundation, Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, the Nashville Humane Association and the American Cancer Society were among the other charities that benefited from the night's wins.
