Ednita Nazario's 'Soy' Tallies Strong First-Week

November 05, 2009

By By Leila Cobo, Miami

Puerto Rican singer Ednita Nazario debuts on top of the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart with her set "Soy" (Sony Latin), notching the highest first week sales for a female Latin act so far this year. Nazario sold over 16,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan, surpassing Nelly Furtado's first week sales for "Mi Plan."

Nearly all of Nazario's sales came from Puerto Rico, where the singer benefited from a four month campaign leading up to the release of the album and four in-stores. According to manager Angelo Medina, heavy emphasis was placed on early digital promotion coupled with a TV spot campaign. Radio wasn't the focus of Nazario's promotion; her first single, "Sin Quere,r" is at No. 54 on the Hot Latin Songs chart.
