Argentina's CAPIF Staging 'Record Store Night'

October 16, 2009

By By Leila Cobo, Miami

In an effort to breathe new life into the concept of record stores as a gathering place for music lovers, Argentina's Chamber of Record Producers (CAPIF) is organizing its first "Record Store Night."

During the event, taking place Oct. 22 in Buenos Aires, music stores around the city will keep longer hours and will feature live performances and discounts.

The program, developed by CAPIF with the city's ministries of culture and economical development, seeks to spur music sales and get music buyers back into stores. It is, says CAPIF Executive Director Javier Delup?, one of a series of moves designed by the organization to provide incentives to the music industry.
