Metal outfit Slipknot has topped the nominations list for this year's Kerrang! Awards, hosted by the U.K weekly rock magazine on Aug. 3 in London.

With six nominations, including two for best single ("Dead Memories" and "Psychosocial"), the Roadrunnner Records act is in the running for every category for which they are eligible. Following with five nominations, Metallica will battle with Slipknot for the title of best live band, best single, best video, best album and best international band.

Hardcore act Gallows and alt-rockers Placebo have both earned three nominations, competing in the best album category with respective releases "Grey Britain" (Warner Bros) and "Battle For the Sun" (PIAS).

Green Day, the Prodigy and Enter Shikari have two nominations apiece.

Nomination shortlists were created by open fan vote at www.kerrang.com.

Voting for eight categories is open at the Kerrang! Web site.

The ceremony, to be hosted by Anthrax's Scott Ian and Slipknot's Corey Taylor, will also include the presentation of the icon, hall of fame, inspiration and spirit of independence awards, as chosen by Kerrang! magazine.

In a statement, Kerrang! editor Paul Brannigan said, "Slipknot vs. Metallica is Kerrang!'s very own 'Clash of the Titans.' Both bands have had an incredible twelve months, with huge albums, sold-out arena tours and festival headlining slots, but we know that the battle for Kerrang! Awards supremacy will mean the world to them."

The award night follows Kerrang!'s 'Week of Rock' shows at the HMV Forum in London, from July 28 to Aug. 1, featuring Limp Bizkit and Buckcherry amongst others.
