UMCMP Inks Deal With First Classics
July 28, 2009 - Global | Touring | Classical

By Jen Wilson, London

Universal Music Classical Management and Productions (UMCMP), a company of Universal Music Group (UMG), has signed a long-term agreement with First Classics GmbH, a leading network of German classical music concert promoters.

The partnership will give UMCMP and UMG's classical music roster access to First Classics' 500 events per season, which are organized within the framework of 27 concert series in 10 cities. In turn, First Classics will bolster its line-ups with some of the world's leading classical artists from UMCMP and UMG's rosters.

Initial projects are due to start this autumn, continuing on a larger scale in the 2010/11 season. Existing contracts for UMCMP artists will be honored.

UMCMP operates in the field of artist management and event production and promotion in classical music. Its roster of artists includes Anna Netrebko, Rolando Villazón, Elina Garanca and Thomas Hampson, among others. The Universal company also organizes tours for artists such as Cecilia Bartoli, Bryn Terfel and Roberto Alagna, and creates television and media projects for other Universal Music artists

"For us, First Classics is the perfect partner because it focuses on artistic quality and reaches out to a well-informed public that wishes to experience the stars of classical music as well as new artistic developments," said Manfred Seipt, UMCMP managing director, in a statement. "By working closely with our group's labels such as Deutsche Grammophon and Decca, we will, through this new partnership, be able to present artists in Germany more successfully than ever before."

Andreas Schessl, managing director of First Classics, added: "The partnership with Universal Music opens up new opportunities for us to include top international stars on our prestigious concert series and also allows us to familiarize our public with the stars of tomorrow."
