Classical BRITS Gets Touch Of Klass
March 06, 2008 - Global | Classical

By Andre Paine, London

Musician, broadcaster and TV presenter Myleene Klass is to host this year's Classical BRIT Awards at London's Royal Albert Hall on May 8.

The awards, which launched in 2000, will be sponsored by National Savings & Investments for the fifth consecutive year. Tickets to the ceremony are available to the public.

Klass, a former member of British pop group Hear'Say, is currently No. 1 on the U.K. classical compilation chart with "Myleene's Music For Mothers" (EMI).

"The Classical BRITS is the biggest event in the classical calendar," she says in a statement. "To be the host is a personal highlight in my career. I'm really looking forward to presenting a ceremony that is so close to my heart and I'm sure it will be a magical evening."

Nominations will be unveiled on April 8 across seven categories, including NS&I's album of the year and young British classical performer or group.

Trade body the BPI, organizers of the Classical BRIT Awards, has also unveiled the appointment of Dickon Stainer, UCJ managing director, and Head of EMI Classics U.K., Thomas Kaurich, as the new co-chairmen to the Classical BRIT Awards Committee.
