SESAC Christian Honors Songwriters
February 24, 2009 - Christian | Publishing

By Deborah Evans Price, Nashville

Jason Ingram took home his third consecutive SESAC Christian Songwriter of the year honor last night (Feb. 23) at the performing rights organization's annual awards dinner in Nashville at Sambuca Restaurant. Peertunes Ltd., Grange Hill Music & Windsor Way Music were named SESAC's 2008 Christian Publishers of the Year.

"I just want to encourage everyone to let the Lord use your pen. At the end of the day, if something you're a part of moves someone emotionally on a heart level, on a soul level, it's unbelievable," Ingram told Billboard after receiving the honor. "Whether I'm writing or producing or singing myself, if that can be used to move someone, it's like gold in the bank. It all counts."

During the event, Ingram and Brandon Heath performed "Give Me Your Eyes," which became a No. 1 hit for Heath and earned the collaborators a Grammy nomination. Ingram, one of the Christian industry's most sought-after writer/producers, had a banner year that also included "Peace Be Still" and "Wonder of the World," recorded by Rush of Fools, as well as hits by Meredith Andrews, Britt Nicole, Bebo Norman and Tenth Avenue North.

"SESAC was excited about me before I had any songs on radio," Ingram says. "They really believe in songwriters and believe in this community. I'm a huge fan. When I see the name SESAC, it makes me proud."

Among the other SESAC writers honored during the event were Ian Eskelin, Adam Agee of Stellar Kart and Jeremy Kunkle of This Beautiful Republic.
