International Music Summit Confirms Speakers
February 23, 2009 - Global | Dance

By Jen Wilson, London

Techno artist Richie Hawtin and Marc Marot, head of SEG Entertainment U.K., have been revealed as keynote speakers at the second annual International Music Summit (IMS). The event takes place on the Spanish island of Ibiza May 27 to 29, with the conference curated by DJ Pete Tong and IMS partner Ben Turner.

Marot, former president of Island Records in the U.K., was recently appointed to sports management company SEG Entertainment U.K., as CEO, along with John Arnison. The appointments to SEG are part of the company's strategy to create a diversified entertainment group. The U.K. arm of SEG was formed following the acquisition of Marot's company Terra Firma Management and Arnison's J Management; dance acts now represented by SEG include DJ Paul Oakenfold and Lemon Jelly.

Hawtin has been involved with influential labels such as Plus 8, Probe and Definitive as well as his own Berlin-based M-nus label.

"I heard great reports about the first IMS, and as this is a critical time for the industry and the world at large, this intimate gathering feels more important now than ever before," said Hawtin in a statement. "I am excited to share my experiences and vision for the future with the leaders of the genre."

PJ Bloom, Jason Alexander and Sanne Hagelsten, who place music in some of the biggest network shows including "CSI" and "Entourage," will feature on a specialised synch panel with curator Jason Bentley from KCRW.

Label and event founders including Enric Palau (Sonar), James Barton and Martin Gontad (Creamfields), Danny Whittle (Pacha), Rob da Bank (Bestival) and Mark Jones (Wall Of Sound) will also appear at the summit.

A full list of speakers and panels is available at theIMS Web site. Acts for the IMS: 09 Grand Finale, to be held at Dalt Vila, will be announced shortly.

Ibiza's local government, the Consell Insular, Sonica FM radio and music magazine Ibiza-Voice have been announced as additional sponsors for IMS: 09, alongside Pioneer Pro DJ, Sol beer, club brand Pacha, and marketing and advertising agency the Shop.
