Belle Makes Gospel Debut
March 24, 2008 - RB Hip-Hop

By Gail Mitchell, L.A.

Singer/songwriter Regina Belle segues into gospel with the May 13 release of "Love Forever Shines." The new album also marks the re-launch of industry veteran Ruben Rodriguez' Pendulum Records, distributed now by Universal Music Group Distribution division Fontana in association with Walker Davis Entertainment.

Belle's album was executive produced by Rodriguez, Ray Davis and Chris Walker. Its 14 tracks include lead single "God Is Good," "I Call on Jesus"
(featuring Shirley Murdock) and "I'll Never Leave You Alone," one of several tracks penned by Belle.

She first worked with Rodriguez while signed to Columbia Records, where she scored several hits. Among those were two No. 1 R&B hits in 1989 ("Baby Come to Me" and "Make It Like It Was") as well as a No. 1 pop hit in 1992 ("A Whole New World [Aladdin's Theme]" with Peabo Bryson).

In addition to his stint with Columbia, promotion executive Rodriguez also worked at Motown and Casablanca before founding Pendulum in 1991. At that time, the label's roster included Digable Planets and Lords of the Underground.
