Major Cuban salsa and timba band Los Van Van has canceled its European summer tour after drummer and music director Samuel Formell suffered a domestic accident in his kitchen in Havana.
Formell, son of Van Van double-bassist, leader and founder Juan Formell, fell and burnt his face with boiling water.
Van Van was due to close the second day of the Esperanzah! world music festival in Barcelona, Spain, on June 27. Other concerts cancelled included shows in Madrid, Milan, Rome, Paris and London.
Samuel Formell said in a note from Havana that he was recovering, and that Van Van would begin rehearsals early July, to be able to perform at the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada on July 12.
