Moyet, Clarke Reunite For Yazoo Dates
January 24, 2008 - Global | Touring | Dance

By Paul Sexton, London

Yazoo, the early 1980s U.K. chart duo of Alison Moyet and Vince Clarke that was known as Yaz in the U.S., has announced a short reunion tour that will see it play live for the first time in 25 years.

The five-date U.K. tour will start June 4 in Glasgow and concludes at London's Hammersmith Apollo June 18, with tickets available from Feb. 1. This will be preceded by Mute's release of a four-disc box set, "In Your Room," including Yazoo's two original albums "Upstairs At Eric's" (No. 2 in the U.K. in 1982) and "You and Me Both," which topped the U.K. chart the following year as the group disbanded.

"Upstairs At Eric's" was a platinum-certified album in the U.S., reaching No. 32 on The Billboard 200, on which "You and Me Both" peaked at No. 69. The new set will also feature b-sides and remixes and a DVD of interviews and original videos.

Moyet and Clarke only ever performed 24 shows together during Yazoo's original time together, before Moyet started a career as a solo vocalist and Clarke (formerly with Depeche Mode) joined forces with singer Andy Bell to form Erasure, in which he continues to record and tour.

"Many of these Yazoo songs have never been played live," says Clarke. "I'm looking forward to performing them with Alison for all the fans who've enjoyed our music through the years but never had a chance to see Yazoo in concert."
