Nothin' But A 'Good Time' For Alan Jackson

Country king Alan Jackson scores his fourth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with "Good Time," giving the singer his 12th chart-topper on Top Country Albums ... Flogging Molly notches its highest-charting album and its biggest sales week ever ... The Black Crowes triumphantly return to the Billboard 200 with their best-charting album since 1992 ... Michael McDonald and Jackson Browne check into the top 30 ... Meanwhile, Vampire Weekend and Eddie Vedder make big gains while "American Idol" shines on Jeff Buckley and Blake Lewis.
FLASH POINTS
• Alan Jackson snares his fourth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart as "Good Time" starts with 119,000. On Top Country Albums, it's his 12th chart-topper. His last studio set, 2006's Alison Krauss-produced "Like Red on a Rose," started with 149,000 at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Top Country Albums. The new album's lead single, "Small Town Southern Man," rises to No. 2 this week on Hot Country Songs. It's the singer's 47th top 10 single on the chart and his biggest hit since "Remember When" spent two weeks at No. 1 in early 2004 ... Last week's No. 1, Janet Jackson's "Discipline," falls to No. 3 with 57,000 (down 68%).
• Rock band Flogging Molly notches its highest-charting album and its best sales week yet as "Float" bows at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 with 48,000. The celtic rock sounds of Flogging Molly are all the more popular at this time of year, what with St. Patrick's Day right around the corner ... The band's last album, "Whiskey on a Sunday," debuted and peaked at No. 67 with 14,000 in 2006. The act set its last high-water mark when "Within a Mile of Home" landed at No. 20 with a 38,000 bow ... The group's label, SideOneDummy, also has reason to celebrate this week. The indie scores its highest-charting album on the Billboard 200, beating out the No. 8 peak of the 2004 various-artists compilation "Vans Warped Tour 2004." (This item was revised on March 12, correcting the title and year of the "Vans" album.)
• The Black Crowes triumphantly return to the Billboard 200 with their highest-charting album since 1992 as "Warpaint" bows at a lofty No. 5 with 46,000. The album is the first studio set for the act in nearly eight years and its first top 10 set since "The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion" opened at No. 1 way back in 1992. The 46,000 debut for "Warpaint" is the best sales week for the band since 2001, when its last studio effort, "Lions," started with 53,000 at No. 20 ... The Black Crowes play "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" March 21 and then take their road show to Australia, New Zealand, London and Amsterdam.
• Two artists who first tasted the Billboard 200 in the 1970s soldier on in 2008 as the latest efforts by Michael McDonald and Jackson Browne start at Nos. 12 and 24, respectively. The former's "Soul Speak," consisting of covers of old soul classics (along with a few new originals), starts with 28,000. His last album of new material, "Motown Two," entered at No. 9 in 2004 with 70,000. Browne's "Solo Acoustic 2" bows with 20,000 and follows in the footsteps of 2005's "Solo Acoustic Vol. 1" (No. 55 off a 19,000 debut).
• Vampire Weekend makes the most of its March 8 performance on "Saturday Night Live" as the band's self-titled album skips from No. 61 to No. 26, selling 19,000 (up 53%). Of the set's nearly 7,000-unit increase this week, 67% of that figure were digital downloads ... The DVD release of the Sean Penn-directed film "Into the Wild" encourages a 98% jump for its soundtrack at No. 79 ... The influence of "American Idol" is felt on the charts, as last season's runner-up, Blake Lewis, re-enters the Billboard 200 at No. 154 with a 135% increase after his performance on the show last week. Additionally, after one of the contestants covered Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" last week, Jeff Buckley's popular version of the song enters Hot Digital Songs at No. 1 with 178,000 downloads. Buckley's "Grace" album, which includes the song, debuts at No. 10 on Top Pop Catalog Albums, selling 7,000 (up 1,284%) -- the album's best sales week since June 1995.

• Album units, current chart week: 7.68 million units
• DOWN 3.5% from last issue's charts: 7.95 million units

• This week: Only the No. 1 album sells more than 100,000 copies.
• This week last year on the Billboard 200: The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Greatest Hits" debuted at No. 1 with 99,000, beating out the No. 2 debut of "Neon Bible" by Arcade Fire (92,000). No albums sold more than 100,000.
BORDERLINES
• The No. 50 album this week, Nickelback's "All the Right Reasons" (Roadrunner), sold 13,000.
• The No. 50 album for the same week of 2007, My Chemical Romance's "The Black Parade" (Reprise/Warner Bros.), sold 15,000.
• Average total of the No. 50 album for the same week of the year during the past 10 years (1999-2008): 22,525.
PROGRESS REPORTS
• Britney Spears' "Break the Ice" bows at No. 39 on CHR/Top 40 Airplay. It's the third single from the singer's "Blackout" album to reach the tally and her 19th charting hit overall. The first two singles from "Blackout" -- "Gimme More" and "Piece of Me" -- peaked at Nos. 17 and 28, respectively. Since Spears made her chart debut in October 1998, no other woman has had as many CHR/Top 40 hits.
• Taylor Swift becomes the first artist to simultaneously place two country songs on the CHR/Top 40 chart as "Our Song" debuts at No. 37. The track, which spent six weeks atop Hot Country Songs earlier this year, joins her former top 10 "Teardrops on My Guitar," which dips to No. 15. "Teardrops," meanwhile, continues its climb on the Adult Contemporary chart, where the ballad rises 11-10.
• Pennywise returns to the Alternative/Modern Rock chart for the first time in more than six years as "The Western World" opens at No. 34. It's is the quartet's third Modern Rock chart appearance and first since "F**k Authority" peaked at No. 38 in July 2001. "World" instantly marks a career-best chart peak for the group, passing the No. 36 ranking of 1999's "Alien." After eight releases on Epitaph, the band's MySpace Records debut, "Reason to Believe," is due March 25.
